ALBANY, NY — It was announced today, Wednesday, December 17, by the Gaming Facility Location Board that they recommend one casino in the Catskills and Hudson Valley region, and that casino is Empire Resorts' casino Montreign in Town of Thompson, Sullivan County.

The location board considered 16 casino applications and would choose up to four and at least one casino in three regions. Of the locations, Sullivan County and Orange County were options. There were two casino options in Sullivan County. The board decided to award three applications to the casinos, none of which would be in Orange County or Ulster County. The other two awards went to Rivers Casino and Resort in Mohawk Harbor in Schenectady County and Lago Resort and Casino in Seneca County in the Southern Tier Finger Lakes region. The board discussed how they made their decisions, which included looking at the economic vitality of the regions.

Montreign Casino in Thompson (next to Monticello) is a part of Adelaar Resort and has an estimated cost of $630 million, and will provide 1,209 full-time jobs.
