TEXAS TOWNSHIP, PA — Zoning issues related to rental properties were among the topics addressed in this week’s Texas Township supervisors’ meeting, led by Chairman Don Doney. The supervisors have discovered that single-family homes are being converted to two- and three-family dwellings without permits.

Troubles arise when septic systems designed for one family are used by two or more families and become overloaded. The discussion continued, leading to concerns of incorrect driveway construction. Doney expressed his concern that due to lack of driveway ordinances, people who construct these driveways build them without permits and engineering input. Improper slope contributes to the driveways washing out into drainage ditches.

On the subject of drainage ditches, extensive repairs from recent storm damage are nearly completed, including a three-mile stretch on Buck’s Cove Road. Also scheduled to be replaced are its damaged roadside railings and signage. Trees downed by recent severe storms have been cleared from roadways and a new crown has been installed to prevent standing water on Prompton Road.
