Wayne commissioner loses barn
May 28, 2014 —
DAMASCUS TWP, PA — A barn belonging to Wayne County Commissioner Brian Smith was destroyed by fire on May 25, killing about 11 calves and a dog. The barn was part of the family business owned by Smith, his wife and his son.
Smith told a reporter he was glad that no person was injured in the fire and he was grateful for the help from his neighbors and the 100 or so firefighters who interrupted their holiday weekends to battle the blaze.
Smith said the barn is covered by insurance but he was not sure of the future of the farm.
The cause of the blaze is being investigated by a Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal.
