Suspect identified in hit and run

BUCKINGHAM TOWNSHIP, PA — A suspect has been identified in a hit-and-run incident that killed 19-year-old Zachary Passemato of Hancock, NY. Television station WNEP reported that Jason Day is being investigated as being the driver of a pick-up truck that killed Passemato in the accident, which occurred on May 16 at about 8:30 p.m. at State Route 191 at Winterdale Road, in Buckingham Township, Wayne County.
The report sites court documents that say Day admitted to drinking a large amount of beer before the accident and say he still smelled of alcohol when he appeared at the Pennsylvania State Police station the next morning to report that he thought he had hit a deer the night before.
Court documents say Day told officers he is the victim’s cousin.
Wayne County Coroner Edward Howell has ruled that Passemato’s death was a vehicular homicide.
Coincidentally, Sen. Lisa Baker is co-sponsoring legislation in Harrisburg that would increase the mandatory minimum penalty from one year to three years in prison for fleeing the scene of an accident that resulted in a death.
