Ledges Hotel is back open
April 17, 2014 —
HAWLEY, PA — Just 62 days after a fire destroyed parts of the Ledges Hotel, owner Justin Genzlinger announced they are back in business. The hotel opened April 17, and Genzlinger and staff were busy putting together the final touches for their grand opening that night, a bridal party coming that day and a concert on Saturday night. Genzlinger joked that “literally the paint is still drying in a few rooms.”
On the night of Valentine’s Day, a fire broke out on the roof of the Ledges. The damage was mostly from water from the sprinkler system, as well as smoke damage. The resulting damages cost $1 million, but Genzlinger said with the help of local business they were able to repair everything and even salvage the furniture, which needed to be cleaned. Genzlinger said his family, which also owns the Settlers Inn, has never experienced a problem this big before. With the help of Dakan Enterprises, ProJan Cleaning and Restoration and staff, they were able to get everything all patched up.
The fire damaged the lobby, the kitchen and one of the suites. These rooms have all been fully restored to their previous modern aesthetic and function, along with a few updates. The lobby is newly styled and a contemporary heating system has been added to the deck of Glass—Wine. Bar. Kitchen. (the restaurant in Ledges) to accommodate an extended dining season.
The hotel overlooks Wallenpaupack Creek, which has a magnificent waterfall. The many decks around the hotel serve as viewing spots, and one is a star gazing deck built on an old stone wall from when the building used to be a glass factory. World class architects Bohlin Cywinski Jackson and custom furniture designers from Boyce Products have devoted their efforts to harmonizing the Ledges Hotel with its distinct history and picturesque natural settings. Ledges has 20 rooms that range in size and price and are modern and sleek, some with views of the creek and waterfall. Glass offers small plates and a bar, and frequently has music.
On Saturday, April 19 there will be a Grateful Dead night with music by Black Onion from 9 p.m. to midnight. Ledges Hotel is currently taking reservations for lodging accommodations. Regular business hours for Glass will commence on Wednesday, April 23. Outside dining begins in May.
