Eldred board election coming

ELDRED, NY — On March 13, the Eldred Central School District (ESD) announced it will hold an election for one seat on the school board to take place on May 20. The seat is filled by Carol Bliefernich, who has been appointed as the district’s representative to Sullivan County BOCES, and who is running for re-election to the five-year seat.

Any residents who wish to run for the office can get a petition from district clerk Bonnie Robertson. It must be returned to her office by April 21.

Also at the meeting there was a detailed presentation by Larry Thomas, the superintendent of BOCES, explaining partnerships, programs, courses and more. Some of the partnerships the schools may participate in with BOCES are green technologies, wind and solar energies and science technology.

Board president Douglas Reiser commented on the passage of the veterans’ tax reduction at last month’s meeting and said he would have preferred that there would have been a public referendum on the matter.

Resolutions passed by the board included naming March 2014 “Music in Our Schools Month.”

District Superintendent Robert Dufour and District Treasurer Cheryl Gross went through the lengthy 2014-2015 general fund report, highlighting changes and hires, etc. One item in the budget was a three-year agreement for security with Scarsdale Security Services, effective July 1.

The budget will be voted on by the public on May 20, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the high school.
