HONESDALE, PA — The Wayne County Commissioners and Wayne 911 recognized a small hero on February 13.

Emergency dispatcher Bill McKinnell described a call he received on January 14. “We had a call from a young boy—calm as could be. He knew his address and phone number, kept his younger siblings under control and got help for his mother.”

The young boy was Dylan Langman, “I’ll be nine in April.”

Not only did he know his address, he twice corrected the incorrect 911 data for his address. “He did better than most adults,” said 911 Supervisor Betsy

Turner.

Commissioner and former Honesdale Mayor Jonathan Fritz said Dylan came from good stock, noting that his dad is Honesdale police officer Robert Langman. “I have a six-, eight- and 10 year-old at home, and I can easily project this situation on my family. What you did was nothing short of awesome,” Fritz told Dylan.

A proud officer Langman was on hand along with Dylan’s fully recovered mom, Trisha, their two younger sons and other family members.

In other business, the commissioners named Craig Rickard to the vacant $55,645 position as county planning director and promoted Christopher Barrett to assistant planning director, salaried at $48,630.

They also named six new part-time correction officers, slated to begin work on February 18 and salaried at $12.01 per hour.
