Heroin found in Fallsburg school

FALLSBURG, NY — A baggie of heroin was found in a faculty bathroom at Benjamin Cosor Elementary School. The discovery was made by a school employee on February 11. That followed another discovery of drugs and paraphernalia in the same restroom back in December 2013.

The Fallsburg Police Department is investigating the incident and through camera footage identified seven people who used the bathroom before the drugs were found.

Initially, the six teachers and one other person had all agreed to provide the police with urine samples, but after talking to the union representatives they withdrew the offer. No one has been charged in connection with the incident.

Superintendent Ivan Katz posted a message on the district’s website acknowledging the incident, but it provided little additional information. It says, “The Fallsburg Police Department is conducting a criminal investigation of these incidents. We are fully cooperating with the police in this investigation and, in order not to interfere with that investigation, cannot comment further at this time.”
