Pharmacy employees noticed that the prescription appeared to be forged and refused to fill the order. Cleveland was arrested a short time later in the Village of Liberty.

Cleveland was charged with forgery, a felony. She was arraigned in the Town of Thompson Justice Court and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail. State police were assisted in the investigation by the Village of Liberty Police Department.
