The body of a Pennsylvania man was recovered on November 17 after two canoes capsized on Lake Wallenpaupack. There were seven people in the canoes on the lake on November 15, when they capsized. Six of the boaters managed swim to shore, but 24-year-old Ben Culton of Harleysville, did not make it.
The canoes had set out from Seeley’s Landing on the Pike County side of the lake on Friday evening. Sometime before midnight, one of the canoes capsized and all three boaters attempted to climb into the other canoe, which caused it to collapse. None of the boaters were wearing lifejackets.
The water temperature was 42 degrees Fahrenheit, and two of the boaters were treated for hypothermia.
Rescue crews searched all day on Saturday, but could not find the body. It was finally found on Sunday at about 1 p.m.
