TOWN OF CALLICOON, NY — Scott Gaebel, an incumbent member of the board of the Town of Callicoon, called The River Reporter to express dissatisfaction over a news brief about stolen election signs.

Gaebel, a Republican, said the wording of the brief could lead readers to assume that he had knowledge of the theft of a sign or in some way condoned it, which he said he did not.

The signs in question belong to Nancy Lee, a Democrat who is running for supervisor, and a sign belonging to Gaebel, located at the foot of Stump Pond Road. Gaebel said that his sign was installed at that location before Lee’s sign.

A reader reported to The River Reporter that Lee’s sign was there first, and when her sign was discovered stolen, it was noted that Gaebel’s sign had been erected there. The reader did not say the appearance of Gaebel’s sign was connected to the disappearance of Lee’s sign, or that Gaebel was in any way connected to the theft of Lee’s sign.
