DEERPARK, NY — David Carlson was arrested for shooting Norris Sanchez-Acosta and killing him on October 11, as Carlson was reportedly in the process of delivering Sanchez-Acosta to police.

According to Carlson’s attorney David Wallace, Carlson had delivered Sanchez-Acosta to police two days earlier. Wallace wrote in an email, “He was put in a police car, but was not restrained when the Deerpark police took him back to the woods where he had been hiding in a cabin. He bolted from the police.”

Wallace also said that neighbors were responded to rudely when they asked about their safety.

Sanchez-Acosta was able to escape from police by jumping into the Rio Reservoir, swimming across it and fleeing into the woods in the Town of Lumberland on October 10. He returned to the remote area the next day, when he was killed by Carlson.

Sanchez-Acosta was wanted in the alleged rape of a 15-year-old girl in Ramapo. The alleged rape was reported to police by the girl’s parents back in July, and Acosta-Sanchez, who was unemployed, was indicted by a grand jury in Rockland County on multiple counts of rape and related charges.

On October 11, New York State Police released a statement that said, “The State Police in Middletown are currently investigating the shooting death of a 35 year-old male which occurred at approximately 9:20 this morning on Old Plank Road in the Town of Deerpark.
