TOWN OF CALLICOON, NY — There has been a rash of theft of election signs in the Town of Callicoon in advance of the election in November. Two large wooden signs promoting the candidacy of Nancy Lee, a Democrat who is running for supervisor, were stolen between the evening of October 10 and the morning of October 11.

One was stolen from a supporter’s yard on Route 52 in Youngsville, and another was removed from in front of another supporter’s house.

A third sign was removed from the foot of Stump Pond Road, and replaced with a sign in support of Scott Gaebel, a Republican, who is running for a seat on the town council.

Police have been notified about the thefts.

Under the New York State Fair Campaign Code, the theft of signs is considered a violation, described in the code as “Practices of political espionage including, but not limited to, the theft of campaign materials or assets, placing one’s own employee or agent in the campaign organization of another candidate, bribery of members of another’s campaign staff, electronic or other methods of eavesdropping or wiretapping.” Violations are punishable by fine.
