The Lacawac Sanctuary Foundation has received a $390,000 grant from the National Science Foundation for the construction of a state-of-the-art library. According to a press release from the organization, “The addition of the library will enable Lacawac to continue with its vital studies, while helping to attract scientists from around the country to come and conduct climate and water quality research.”

The press release cites the hiring of Dr. Leslie Knoll as director of research and education in 2011 to an increase in national awareness among scientists conducting similar studies and in helping to position the organization as a “premiere research and educational hub.”

The release also says, “Beyond research, Lacawac also serves the public through a variety of exhibits, shows and activities throughout the year. Many of these activities generate needed operating revenue for Lacawac while providing a vital service to the community.” These are provided with no tax dollars, just the support of members.
