An eight-year-old boy was killed in an all-terrain-vehicle (ATV) accident on New Turnpike Road in the Town of Cochecton on August 24. New York State Police issued a press release that said they were called to the scene at about 5:30 p.m.

They found that 31-year-old Glenn Adycki of Lynbrook had been operating the ATV and eight-year-old Alex Huertas of Malverne was a passenger in the rear of the seat. Police say the ATV, a 2010 Polaris Sportsman 550, went into a ditch and turned over, pinning Huertas underneath.

Two passersby, Niko Ibanez and Paul Degiglio, removed the vehicle from Huertas and called 911. Huertas was transported to Grover M. Hermann Hospital in Callicoon where he was pronounced dead. The driver suffered minor injuries.

Huertas was a member of the Malverne Little League, which posted on their website, “Alex will be greatly missed, forever cherished and always remembered. We wish to extend our most sincere and heartfelt condolences to the Huertas family during this difficult time. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.”
