The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a one-car fatal accident that occurred on July 6 in the Town of Lumberland. At approximately 4:30 p.m., a 1996 Honda Civic driven by Joshua Crespo, 18, of Port Jervis, was traveling northbound on County Route 31 near Glen Spey, when it ran off the road and struck a utility pole.

The front seat passenger, Amanda Moribito, 17, of Yulan, was flown from the scene to Westchester Medical Center where she subsequently succumbed to her injuries. Her sister, Ashley Morabito, 16, who was the back-seat passenger, was taken to Bon Secours Hospital in Port Jervis and then transferred to Westchester Medical Center, where she remains in serious condition.

The driver was also taken to Bon Secours Hospital, where he was treated and released. He was issued tickets for bald tires, no insurance and a suspended registration. The investigation into the cause of the accident is still pending.
