SALEM TOWNSHIP, PA — PA State Police at Honesdale say Daniel Lomax of Factoryville was killed when he stopped at the scene of a one-car accident to render assistance. A press release says the 55-year-old off-duty officer and volunteer firefighter “came into contact with downed power lines which instantly caused his death.” The incident occurred on Sawmill Road on the morning of June 22.
Wayne County Coroner Edward Howell arrived on the scene and pronounced Lomax dead at 5:49 a.m.
The woman driving the car in the accident went off the road and hit a utility pole, and the car was in flames, When officials arrived they found the woman a short distance from the car with severe burns.
