In separate incidents, Monticello police arrested three men recently for theft with the help of video evidence. In the first case, Monticello police arrested Isaiah Roberts, 22, and Keron Neils, 20, both of Brooklyn, for stealing a donation jar from a fast food establishment.

Police say that on May 28, the duo stole the donation jar from the front counter of Wendy’s Restaurant on Broadway at about 7 p.m. The donation jar was for the collection of funds for the Dave Thomas Foundation to help fund adoption and foster care programs.

The donation jar contained approximately $40. Then on June 1, the two men returned to the restaurant and were recognized by employees, who called police. Monticello officers reviewed the surveillance footage of the incident and confirmed that Roberts and Neils were responsible for the larceny of the donation jar, and they were then arrested. The defendants were taken to the Monticello police lockup.

In the other incident, Monticello police arrested Anthony Morelli, 39, of Monticello on May 31. A few days earlier, police received a complaint from a Woodbourne woman that her purse had been stolen from a parked vehicle on Landfield Avenue after the car window had been smashed out.

The woman was then alerted that a credit card from her stolen purse had been used at a Village of Monticello convenience store. Police investigated and were able to obtain surveillance footage from that convenience store which showed Morelli using the stolen credit card to buy $93.53 of cigarettes.

Morelli was arraigned before Village of Monticello justice Josephine Finn and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail without bail pending further court action.

Morelli is currently on parole in New York State until June 2015 for a prior conviction of felony criminal possession of forged instrument.
