CANAAN, PA — The man accused of killing corrections officer Eric Williams at the U.S. Penitentiary at Canaan in Wayne County on February 25 has been identified. Officials say the suspect is Jessie Con-ui, who had previously been convicted of killing a rival gang member in Arizona.

Con-ui reportedly took Williams by surprise and killed him by stabbing him repeatedly with a home-made weapon. Con-ui was moved to a higher security prison after the killing.

Con-ui, 36, was reportedly a member of a gang in Arizona called the New Mexican Mafia, and was facing a life sentence in that state and an 11-year sentence on a drug dealing charge.

He was due to finish his federal imprisonment in September and would have been transferred to an Arizona prison. Now, he may be facing the death penalty for killing the corrections officer.
