SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY — At least two more local towns are considering resolutions opposing national gun control legislation proposed in the wake of the Newtown, CT shootings.

The Town of Fremont will vote on such a resolution at the town board’s next regular meeting on Wednesday, February 13 at 7 p.m.

It reads in part, “the Fremont Town Board does hereby oppose the enactment of any legislation that would infringe upon the Right of the People to keep and bear arms and consider such laws to be unnecessary and beyond lawful legislative authority granted to our State representatives, as there is no documented correlation between gun control measures and crime reduction.”

The Town of Monticello was scheduled to vote on a similar resolution at its meeting on Tuesday, February 4, the day this newspaper went to press. A copy of the resolution can be found on our website at tinyurl.com/b8kwbg9.
