Fire at Cochecton Mills

Multiple fire companies from New York and Pennsylvania responded to a fire at Cochecton Mill in Cochecton on the afternoon of February 16. Cochecton Supervisor Gary Maas said at that point the fire may have been caused by fork lift that caught fire.

Firefighters battled the blaze contending with steady rain that was heavy at times, and thick fog which at times was difficult to distinguish from the billowing smoke produced by the fire.

On Wednesday morning, Pat Nearing, a member of the family that owns the business said it was open for business. He confirmed that the fire broke out in the shop, and everything in the shop was destroyed. But fortunately, the fire was prevented from spreading to the other buildings in the complex, which are all connected.

Nearing said it was too early to estimate the amount of damage the fire caused. No one was injured during the blaze.
