Former Liberty supervisor killed in accident

John Schmidt, the former supervisor of the Town of Liberty, was killed in a car accident in Pennsylvania according to the Pennsylvania State Police.

According to a press release from police, Schmidt was traveling on Everly Road in near State Route 590 in Paupack Township on May 24, when his vehicle left the shoulder of the road and struck a tree. After hitting the tree, his vehicle spun 45 degrees and rolled onto its roof before coming to rest.

Schmidt was extricated out of the vehicle by Lakeville Volunteer Fire Department and Commonwealth Health EMS. Schmidt was pronounced dead at the scene by Wayne County Coroner Edward Howell.

Schmidt, who lived in White Sulphur Springs, was 71 years old.
