Honesdale Mayor resigned on April 1, and his resignation letter was effective immediately.

Mayor Ed Langendoerfer told news outlets he has become increasingly frustrated with the board of the borough and especially critical of the way the board has handled hiring in the police department.

The board hired a police commissioner to head the department instead of the former acting police chief, and has been involved in a legal dispute with the former acting police chief.

The board has 30 days to appoint a new mayor.
