Skinners Falls Bridge reopens

The Skinners Falls Bridge, which has been closed for repair since December 2012, is once again open to traffic as of May 21, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. The bridge runs between Milanville and Sullivan County, NY.

Last summer, an initial analysis of the bridge showed that it could withstand up to seven tons of weight, but a later in-depth analysis showed that it could withstand less than four tons.

During the closed period, drivers were seen ignoring the closure signs and driving over the structure regardless of a warning from PennDOT that the bridge was dangerous.

Previous to this recent closing, the bridge was also closed from April through July in 2012.
