Sullivan votes to urge repeal of new gun law
March 21, 2013 —
Sullivan County legislators voted unanimously in favor of a resolution that urges lawmakers in Albany to repeal the New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act of 2013 (NY SAFE ACT).
The vote came shortly after about 200 people attended a rally to oppose the law on March 20, outside the government center in Monticello.
The law, which targets assault weapons, was passed after the shooting massacre of children at the Sandy Hook Elementary School.
Legislators Gene Benson and Cora Edwards spoke at the rally.
