PA to consolidate child care services

MILFORD, PA — Jill Gamboni, director of the Pike County Child Care Information Services (CCSI), announced to the Pike County Commissioners that the state is going to consolidate the delivery of child care services for families who need assistance in paying for child care.

“It’s not a cutting of funding, but a consolidation of how services are delivered,” Gamboni said. Three counties will be affected by the decision: Pike, Wayne and Susquehanna. The program goes into effect on July 1, 2013, she said.

All three counties submitted a grant application, but the grant to run the program went to the nonprofit organization Northeast Child Care Services. The change means that there will no longer be a CCIS office in Pike County but there will be one in Wayne County. Gamboni said this might be a hardship for the clients CCIS serves, because all applicants to the program must have a face-to-face meeting with program representatives, and many clients lack transportation.

The Pike County Commissioners are offering a space for residents to be interviewed.

“In Pike County, 285 families are served by the program,” Gamboni said. “In all three counties, about 655 families are served.”
