Cuomo explains gas shortage

Albany, NY - A minor gas scare reached as far north as Liberty on the evening of November 1, when cars backed up three or four deep at gas stations to stock up on gas. There is a temporary gas shortage in New York City and New Jersey, sending drivers to look for gas in Orange County, with a kind of snowball effect.

At a news conference in Albany earlier today, Governor Andrew Cuomo said that during the storm many shipping containers were swept off ships and into New York Harbor, which posed a danger to vessels including those taking fuel to terminals, which would then go on to distribution centers. The port was closed temporarily while the Coast Guard worked to clear obstacles. But the tankers carrying fuel are now moving again.
