Sullivan West voters approve spending

Sullivan West taxpayers voted to approve spending $2.698 million from the Capital Reserve Fund to pay for repairs and construction for two school campuses. At the elementary school in Jeffersonville, the money will go to resurface the track, repair the cross country trail, replace the 1961 roof, replace an underground oil tank and to create a storm water retention pond for a planned sports field.

At the high school in Lake Huntington, the money will pay for the creation of a baseball field, a soccer field and a softball field. The funds would also pay for setting up a television broadcast classroom.

The unofficial vote was 474 to 325.

The Capital Reserve Fund was approved by voters in May of 2008 and the funds can only be used for the purpose of alterations, construction or reconstruction of facilities, buildings, or additions.

The balance in the fund now is about $6.4 million.
