Some of the top political and business leaders in the county turned out for the ribbon-cutting ceremony at The Sullivan, a facility that was purchased and renovated by developer Butch Resnick and is billed as the county’s only “boutique hotel.”

Several of the county lawmakers were on hand, along with assemblywoman Aileen Gunther and state senator John Bonacic, who wielded the oversized scissors for the actual cutting.

Resnick said he renovated the former Lodge at Rock Hill to be a boutique hotel, and while it looks spruced up and elegant, he said it is not more expensive than other similar facilities in the region.

Typical of Resnick’s style, the renovation was done quickly; he purchased the property at the end of April. The project was made possible with the help of the Sullivan County Industrial Development Agency, which approved the continuation of payments in lieu of taxes that the previous owner of the property had arranged.

At the time of the deal, Resnick said, “Our intention is to upgrade the closed site into a New York City style boutique hotel property, giving Sullivan County residents, business travelers and banquet guests a stylistic and chic experience that will be second to none.”

According to a press release, the facility features “Seventy newly refurbished rooms with amenities including HDTV, free Wi-Fi and complimentary breakfast; Jacuzzi suites are available.” Resnick also owns two onsite restaurants, BHR Bernie’s and Crust.
