Tusten goes for the gold

The Town of Tusten’s waterfront revitalization project, currently in the engineering study and design phase, is one of four included in a special Upper Delaware River Corridor Regional Collaboration, which also includes applications for the planned whitewater park in Port Jervis, a Pond Eddy access parking study for a new river access point and a project to purchase and improve a river access at Sparrowbush in Orange County.

Tusten is requesting $106,400, to be used for construction, labor and materials. The consolidated application was submitted on June 29. The town will also be submitting an individual application by the deadline of July 16. The two applications are for the same grant, but the priority application increases the town’s chances of receiving the final award.

The funds must be matched, but this will be done by in-kind services that include commitments for items including the value of donated easements, public real property, project management services, environmental services and even some materials, avoiding the need to use tax dollars.

The application includes support letters from sources including Congressman Maurice Hinchey, Bethel Woods Center for the Arts and Sullivan County legislature chairman Scott Samuelson. The letters can be read at the Main Street Waterfront Revitalization Project FAQ at www.tusten.org.
