Sullivan West grads say goodbye

In her speech, valedictorian Rebecca Corcillo shared how excited all of the graduates are to be embarking on a new journey, but she said there was also fear about leaving such a familiar place. She said, “We can live without the paralysis of fear. We can live without its suffocating grip.”

Shortly after that the Senior Class President, Megan Haberli, presented the student gift of a podium cover to match the table cover presented by the class of 2011.

Before the presentation of the diplomas the high school principal, Margaret Tenbus, announced how over half the class received scholarships that added up to more than $2,000,000 dollars. As she called the students up to receive each diploma she read the scholarships each respective student earned and the diplomas were presented to each student by the assistant principal, Scott Haberli, and the school board president, Mary K. Scheutzow. About half-way through the presentation of the diplomas, Shawn Bailey Sr., a former board member, was called up to present the diploma to his son Shawn Bailey Jr. as is a custom in the school. The two shared a heart-felt embrace.
