Sullivan legislature to consider fracking ban resolution

Posted

A resolution to ask New York State to ban hydraulic fracturing will be considered by the Sullivan County Legislature’on Thursday, April 26, at 2 p.m. in the government center.

The Health and Family Services Committee voted unanimously to approve the resolution last week. It focuses on concerns about public health, which might be affected by both chemicals injected in the hydro-fracking process and air pollution.

Reflecting that concern, pediatrician and activist Larysa Dyrskza and public health nursing director Carol Ryan were involved in drafting the resolution, which is based on one that was passed by Onandaga County. Also helping to draft the proposal were legislator Cindy Gieger and county attorney Sam Yasgur.
