Another arrest made in burglaries

March 6, 2012

The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office made another arrest in its continuing investigation of widespread burglaries within the county on Monday, February 27. Deputies arrested Tyler W. Hennig, age 25, of Cochecton, and charged him with felony burglary, felony criminal mischief, criminal possession of stolen property, and possession of burglary tools. Hennig is also believed to have committed three separate burglaries at the Cochecton Mills in the fall, and another burglary at the Dime Savings Bank in Damascus, PA on February 16.

Sheriff’s deputies were alerted to suspicious behavior by Hennig’s truck by an alert neighbor. They transmitted a county wide alert and a short time later, a state trooper spotted the vehicle parked in front of a residence at 38 Cochecton Road in Cochecton. The investigation at the scene uncovered a television that had been stolen from the Smallwood residence. The Sheriff’s Office is working with both the NY and PA State Police on those burglaries.

Hennig was arraigned before Town Justice Perry Meltzer and sent to the Sullivan County Jail without bail. The investigation is ongoing.
