Bookkeeper back on the ballot in Tusten

Posted

NARROWSBURG, NY — A referendum as to whether to have the town board rather than the supervisor appoint a bookkeeper in the Town of Tusten will be on the ballot at the regular general election in November. The town board approved a resolution to that effect at its recessed meeting on Monday, February 27.

A similar referendum vote was held last year, and lost in a tie. Afterward, the board approved putting the referendum on the ballot last November, but did not make it to the ballot due to a missed deadline with the county board of elections.

Since there had been confusion with regard to the implications of the referendum for the pay and hours of the bookkeeper position during the last vote, the new referendum has been reworded to make clear that it affects only the identity of the appointees, adding the sentence, “The Local Law does not change the hours or pay rate of the Town Bookkeeper.”
