WASHINGTON, DC — Senator Robert Casey of Pennsylvania has announced that a recently passed year-end funding bill contains $6.4 billion that could help Pennsylvania municipalities recover from the harm done by Hurricane Irene and Storm Lee.

Under the bill, the $6.4 billion in funding will be made available to all states that suffered disasters in the last year.

Locally, Damascus Township spent nearly $400,000 in repairing local roads during Storm Lee. “We’ll try to recover as much of this as we can,” said Jeff Dexter, chairman of the township board.

More realistically, the township is asking FEMA and the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Association to help them recover $250,000 that was already spent on roads damaged by Lee.

“We hope that FEMA comes before the snows cover over the evidence of our problems,” said Ed Lagarenne, EMA coordinator.
