Comment period set for Holbert Quarry

A public notice has been posted for the Holbert Quarry’s application for a Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) permit to conduct noncoal surface mining activities in Lackawaxen Township, as required by the Noncoal Surface Mining Conservation and Reclamation Act and the Clean Streams Law. The application includes a request for blasting.

The proposed permit area is 40 acres and is situated one mile north of the Lackawaxen River and one-half mile west of the Delaware River and is accessed from Masthope Plank Road (State Road 1014).

A copy of the application is available for public inspection at the Pike County Conservation District, 556 Route 402, Suite 1, Hawley, PA 18428. Written comments, objections, or a request for a public hearing or informal conference may be submitted to DEP, Pottsville District Mining Office, 5 West Laurel Boulevard, Pottsville, PA 17901 by January 9, 2012 and must include the person’s name, address, telephone number and a brief statement as to the nature of the objection(s).
