Marino supports limiting involvment in Libya

June 6, 2011

Congressman Tom Marino, PA-10, issued this statement following his vote on June 3 in support of a House Resolution that limits U.S. military involvement in Libya:

“Today I supported a resolution that limits U.S. involvement in Libya, mainly because its foundation is rooted in the Constitution.

“President Obama has not asked Congress for authorization and Congress has not granted it. Congress should have been given the courtesy of an explanation of the U.S. role in Libya and the administration’s objective. A clear-cut mission should have been established and shared with Congress. Asking President Obama to present a plan within two weeks is a fair request.

“This resolution also points out the constitutional role granted to Congress regarding the funding of military action.

“It also reaffirms the vote we took last week that the United States should not have ground troops in Libya, something that I have been saying since this situation erupted.

“We can’t afford to continue to play cop of the world."
