It is estimated that 80% of those who donate their locks/long hair to others in need of hair are children. That would certainly describe Jordan Patzuk, who at the age of four made the very mature decision to have twelve inches of her trailing locks lopped off.

“I was watching a ‘Locks of Love’ special and my Mommy told me that some kids didn’t have hair and their medicine made them sick, so I decided to give my hair to them,” said Jordan, who never wavered in her decision.

It’s taken the better part of those four years to grow the long tresses that took only seconds to sever last week, when Jordan confidently climbed into the chair for her first official haircut. Hairstylist Amanda Hector of Honesdale’s Visible Changes made the process painless as she measured the twelve inches of hair to be sent to Locks of Love.

The non-profit organization provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. The prostheses help to restore self-esteem and confidence to the recipients.
