Reuben T. “Sonny” Conklin of Narrowsburg, NY passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at Catskill Regional Callicoon Division, Callicoon, NY. He was 78.

Sonny was born to the late Albert and Mary Barton Conklin on December 31, 1938 in Cornwall, NY. Sonny was a former operating engineer for the Union Local 825 and founding member of the Tusten Lions Club. In 1976, he opened Sonny’s Service Center and was a well-known and trusted master mechanic, a successful business and legacy he passed on to his family in 2002. A family statement reads: “Sonny was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Besides family, his pride was in maintaining the grounds and gardens on his property, known as Winding Brook Acres. A traveler at heart, he and his wife drove far and wide, and each time returned home with new memories and new friends gained through the miles. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.”

He leaves behind his soulmate and wife of 58 years, Joan Babcock Conklin; their daughter, Cheryl L. Conley, and her husband John of Narrowsburg, NY; two sons, Dale Conklin and his wife Denise of Beach Lake, PA, and Wade Conklin of Narrowsburg, NY; three grandchildren, Stacey Kuhn and her companion James Walton of Yulan, NY, Sean Conley of Beach Lake, PA, Douglas Conklin and his wife Rachael of Old Forge, PA; two great-grandchildren, Kyleigh Kuhn and Donald Kuhn Jr.; his brother, James Conklin and his wife Marilyn of Hammondsport, NY; and several nieces and nephews. Sonny is predeceased by his sister Isabelle “Sammy” Babcock and his niece Veronica Babcock. A memorial service to celebrate Sonny’s life will be held on Saturday, June 17 at Rasmussen Funeral Home in Narrowsburg from 1 to 3 p.m. Donations may be made in Reuben’s name to the Tusten Volunteer Ambulance Service Inc., P.O. Box 34, Narrowsburg, NY 12764.
