NARROWSBURG, NY — The deck in Narrowsburg perched above the Upper Delaware River is once again open to the public. Discussions about the repair of the deck date back several years. At one time a majority of the Tusten Town Board voted in favor of accepting a design for a new deck created by the Chazen Companies. That design called for new concrete footings that reached down into the bedrock.

In the Chazen design, the deck would have appeared to be made of stone, through the use of pre-made concrete panels, and was created to fit in with the proposed river walk that at one point had been planned to stretch down to the river. The board determined at the time the design would be put to a public referendum, which never happened.

That plan was ultimately abandoned. The new deck was rebuilt on the existing footings and is made of wood. A sign on a piece of the lumber used to build the new deck said, “2x6 on Black Locust, Local Grown/Local Milled.”
