Montticello state of emergency

Posted

At this time, I am declaring a State of Emergency for the Village of Monticello. The current nor'easter on the heals of a devastating blizzard late last week is making village streets dangerous and impassable. Heavy snows with limited visibility is anticipated throughout the afternoon and evening, with accumulations of 2” per hour. As a result, village residents are asked to stay in their homes and stay off roadways. Only essential vehicles like healthcare workers, emergency personnel and the Village DPW should be out on the roads trying to clear them of snow and debris. Non-essential vehicles can and will be ticketed.

Please take caution when trying to shovel this snow, as it is heavy and there are significant accumulations expected. Keep a slow, steady pace and take small to moderate shovels full to prevent excessive cardiac strain. Please also check on the health and safety of our vulnerable population. Should there be power outages, please report such outages immediately to the appropriate authorities. In addition, do not be afraid to contact the Village of Monticello Police Department at (845)794-4422 in the case of an emergency.

I thank you for your cooperation and applaud the efforts of our DPW crews that have been stretched thin by these large storm events.

Sincerely,

Doug Solomon
Village Mayor
