Ice in the Upper Delaware

NARROWSBURG, NY — With temperatures dipping below zero in many places in the region on December 19 and 20, ice piled up in the Upper Delaware River at the narrow spot just above the Big Eddy at Narrowsburg.

Despite the region receiving copious amounts of rain and snow over the past several days, the Delaware River Basin Commission determined that the entire basin is still in a drought watch, with water in the New York City reservoirs remaining below historical norms.

According to the New York Department of Environmental Conservation, parts of the region have experienced a 15-inch rain deficit since November 2015.

Sullivan County in New York and Wayne and Pike counties in Pennsylvania remain under drought watches declared by the respective states.
