At 15:32 hours (3:32 pm) on Saturday, February 25, 2017, Monticello Firefighters were dispatched to an ice rescue at the intersection of Anawana Lake Rd. and Lanahan Rd. on Stackhouse Pond in the Town of Thompson.
At 15:35 hours, Rescue 22-61 arrived on scene reporting a victim through the ice approximately 50 feet from shore. Firefighters extended a ladder onto the ice and threw a rescue rope to the victim who was dragged to the shoreline and safe within 5 minutes.
The incident is being investigated by Monticello Fire Dept. and Sullivan County Sheriff’s Deputies. Monticello Police were on scene and Mobilemedic EMS responded and interviewed the individual at the scene. He declined treatment.
