Ice out, ice back

REGION — A brutal cold snap brought thick ice to the lakes and rivers in the Upper Delaware Valley, then a warm spell lead to an early ice out. The ice flowed down the river and jammed up in Bucks County, leading to numerous flood warnings in that area. With the return of cold temperatures, chunky blocks of ice returned to the rivers and creeks, making for typical January scenery.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the temperature for the region for the remainder of the month should be above average. As for the long-term forecast, NWS projections show that there is a greater chance that temperatures will be above normal than below through the spring, with that trend continuing throughout the year.

Regarding precipitation, NWS predicts that in our region there is a greater chance for more precipitation than normal instead of less, and that holds true not only for the month, but through the end of the year.
