NARROWSBURG, NY — A New York State Trooper pulled over a car on Route 97 near Narrowsburg on November 22 and interviewed the driver, Scott Helferich of Honesdale, PA. The trooper discovered that Helferich, 34, had a loaded .40 caliber pistol and was also in possession of heroin. The suspect was arrested.

The trooper then interviewed the front-seat passenger, Dahmir Bethea, 20, of Clifton, NJ. He was holding a nine millimeter handgun. The trooper took the handgun away from Bethea, but Bethea then fled on foot, and according to a state police press release, he fought with the trooper before being arrested and handcuffed.

A third man, Jamar Thompson-Pressley, was holding marijuana.

Two more guns, a loaded .38 caliber and a loaded .45 caliber pistol, and marijuana were discovered when the vehicle was searched.

Helferich was charged with three felony weapons charges and a misdemeanor charge of possession for the heroin.

Bethea was also hit with a weapons charge and with resisting arrest. It was also discovered that Bethea was wanted by police in Patterson, NJ for a shooting incident in January in that city. He was charged as a fugitive from justice.

Thompson-Pressley was charged with a felony count of evidence tampering and a possession of marijuana violation.

The three men were arraigned in the Town of Tusten Court and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail.
