HAWLEY, PA — At its monthly meeting on May 10, the Hawley Borough Council added several items of note to the borough calendar. The annual Memorial Day parade will take place on Sunday, May 28.

The planning board will hold an informational meeting to review its 10-year comprehensive plan on June 7 at 6:30 in the borough hall; the public is invited to attend and comment. The planning board also will provide a survey to enable residents to provide input into the process.

A Civil War reenactment is tentatively planned for mid-June. Further details are still to be determined.

Maiocco Excavating of Lake Ariel was awarded the bid for the Phase 2 Stormwater Rehabilitation. The successful bid was $77,566 and was the lowest of those received. Maiocco was one of nine bidders who expressed interest in the work; of those, five contractors returned bids.

Borough vice president Elaine Herzong announced that a community garden will be established on the Hawley Library grounds. Ten to 15 plots are being considered, and donations are being sought. The borough will act as the responsible fiscal party for the purpose of seeking grants for this project. Despite the late start to the planting season, it is hoped that some planting will occur this year.

Aqua America will be paving on Maple Avenue between River Road and the Keystone intersection. A county grant will be utilized to pave the rest of Maple Avenue. Kiley Associates has performed the engineering for the Aqua portion of this work and proposed to the borough to perform the engineering for the county portion of the project with costs to be capped at the previously-authorized $3,000. The council acknowledged that such an arrangement would accelerate the timetable for completion of the project and readily agreed to the arrangement.

The council and several members of the public expressed their appreciation for the volunteers who readied the ball fields for use.

The resignation of planning board member Ed Ahern was accepted effective immediately. Members were asked to actively recruit a borough resident over the age of 18 to fill this vacancy. The planning board meets the first Tuesday of the month.

The next borough council meeting will take place on June 14 at the borough offices.
