MONTICELLO, NY — Empire Resorts, the company that owns the Monticello Raceway and is in the process of building the Montreign Resort Casino in the Town of Thompson, has announced that effective March 27, Ryan Eller became the new president and chief operating officer of the company.

A press release from the company says Eller will oversee the development of the new casino and the operations and the existing raceway. The release says, “Eller brings to the company extensive experience in the design, development and operation of casinos, video gaming machine facilities such as Monticello Casino and Raceway and integrated resort projects. During the four years prior to joining the company, Mr. Eller served in various executive officer positions with Genting New York LLC (“Genting NY”), which operates Resorts World Casino New York City (“RWNYC”). During his tenure at Genting NY, Mr. Eller oversaw RWNYC’s planning with respect to a $315 million expansion to add 1,000 video lottery terminals, a new hotel and convention complex.”

The largest stockholder of Empire Resorts is Kien Huat, a family trust that is also the largest stockholder of Genting Berhard, a Malaysia-based company.

According to The Wall Street Journal, “Genting Bhd… engages in the leisure and hospitality, oil palm plantations, property development, biotechnology, and oil and gas businesses. The leisure and hospitality segment includes: hotel, gaming and entertainment businesses; tours and travel related services; and other support services. The plantation segment focuses on oil palm plantations, palm oil milling, and related activities. The power segment generates and supplies electric power. The property segment involves property development activities. The oil and gas segment explores and develops oil and gas.” The company was founded in 1968.
