LIBERTY, NY — Seven of the eight announced Democratic candidates for the 19th Congressional District in New York will attend an open forum sponsored by We Are One-Sullivan on July 19 at the Liberty Senior Center, 119 North Main St. at 6:15 p.m. Each candidate will give an opening statement and then all will take questions from the audience.

The candidates submitted brief comments:

Jeffrey Beals: “We need someone who can speak to the many different constituencies in our district, from farmers, to teachers to veterans to union workers to gun owners.” Steven Brisee: “Something I believe to be one of the greatest threats to our democracy is the ways in which the modern political campaign has evolved.” David Clegg:“My experience as a trial lawyer, defending people’s rights, and more than 40 years of community service make me well suited to represent this sprawling and diverse district.” Antonio Delgado: “It’s time to rethink our priorities and make American success stories, like my own, attainable for all families in the Hudson Valley and Catskills.” Brian Flynn: “The top priority for a representative is to listen to constituents and address their concerns.” Sue Sullivan: “I’m running for Congress because we’re facing real challenges, and it’s time to put the partisan politics aside and work together to do what’s right for the people of the Hudson Valley, Catskills, Greater Capital Region and Central New York.” Gareth Rhodes: “We need new leaders who know and love this community to go to Washington and stand up to Trump, and fight for our healthcare, our environment, and our values.” Patrick Ryan: “I’m frustrated with politicians who are more concerned with their political future than with the future of the families here—the families they were elected to represent.”
