MILFORD, PA — The second annual Milford Readers and Writers Festival will feature one of the best-selling thriller authors of the day. Lee Child, the author who created the series featuring Jack Reacher, will have an on-stage conversation on September 16 with Stephen Rubin, the president and publisher of the publishing company Henry Holt.

Child has sold more than 100 million books around the world, and two of his novels have been turned into movies featuring actor Tom Cruise as Reacher. His main character was described this way in a November 2016 review: “Reacher isn’t just tough; he’s supertough. He is exceptionally good with all manner of weapons. His expertise as a sniper is regularly called upon, often via the forensic question ‘How would you do it if you were the bad guy?’”

Child will be appearing on the main stage, and the audience will be invited to join the conversation.

Another feature of this year’s festival will be three events related to science fiction books, harking back to a time from the 1950s to the 1970s when Milford was home to the Milford Writers Conference. The main event will be a slide show and panel discussion on September 17 with moderator Gordon Van Gelder, the editor and publisher of The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction. The panelists will include Lawrence C. Connolly as guest of honor, the science fiction writers Paul Witcover and Robert Levy, and John Grant, encyclopedist and past guest of honor.

There will also be a Twilight Zone Marathon at the Milford Library from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on September 16. Later that evening, there will be a reading with beer tastings at the Dimmick Inn from 8 to 10 p.m., where the abovementioned science fiction writers will read from their novels.

Other festival events include:

• “Love Letters,” a two person award-winning Broadway play performed by actors Len Cariou and Heather Cariou, at the Historic Milford Theatre;

• Robin Morgan, award-winning author, activist and feminist in conversation with journalist Farai Chideya, whose most recent book is “The Episodic Career: How to Thrive at Work in the Age of Disruption”;

• Patricia Bosworth, one of the country’s preeminent biographers (Montgomery Clift, Diane Arbus, Marlon Brando, Jane Fonda) and author of a recent memoir, “The Men in My Life: A Memoir of Love and Art in 1950s Manhattan,” in conversation with the director of the Woodstock Bookfest, Martha Frankel, author of a memoir (“Hats & Eyeglasses”) and other books;

• A Plenary panel with all the above writers in conversation with each other and the audience;

• A private author’s reception and a chance to meet and talk with all the authors from the mainstage panels at the Hotel Fauchère.

• A limited number of festival passes valid for entry to all festival events as well as a private authors reception open only to pass holders are now available for sale at the special early-bird discounted price of $125 per person. Individual tickets for the Science Fiction Panel only on Sunday, September 17, are on sale for $25 per person. More information about the festival can be found at www.milfordreadersandwriters.com (prices for the pass and the science fiction panel will increase on August 15).
