One of the fears my husband and I had when we moved up to Sullivan County was whether we would make friends.

We have friends from Queens who have houses in Narrowsburg, two families I went to school with. Our next-door neighbor was a friend of Tommy’s from Queens. But it was the new friends we made that were important to us, making new memories.

There was one guy who wormed his way into our hearts, “The Judge,” Bob Meyer. Tommy loved spending time with Bob and telling war stories. I happen to think he is a cutie and funny as hell. Bob is such a prankster. I look forward to tax season to see what he is going to pull on me—like the time he called the tax office in a sexy Italian voice to order a pizza, I could not get it through to him that I was not a pizza place. I hung up on him and 15 minutes later he comes in with a pizza and sat and had dinner with us.

This year had to be the best: he comes in and sits down and asks, “You like my wedding ring?” and pulls a fake hand off. I almost pooped my pants. Bob is the man for a good laugh. If you are wondering why I am telling you these stories, it’s because it is Bob’s birthday. Bob and his family are a very special bunch; Kathy, you are one lucky lady. Happy birthday, Bob.

I am going to keep the following event in my column right up to the date of the event. I think it is a very important event which aims to help out one of our local families.

Roycroft’s Roar Tricky Tray will be held on Saturday, March 10 at the Delaware Youth Center, Callicoon, NY. It is a benefit for Dottie Champion Roycroft. Doors open at 1 p.m., calling at 2:30 p.m. There will be special raffles, a 50/50 and refreshments available for purchase. Admission costs $5; additional tickets cost $5 or three for $10. Specials tables cost $2 each or six for $10; tickets for the Grand Special Table cost $3 each or four for $10. 50/50 tickets cost $1 each or an arm’s length for $10. The special admission package, a $15 value, costs $10, and includes admission, one 50/50, tickets for three special raffles and one Grand Special Raffle.

Dottie is battling leukemia and is in need of a bone-marrow transplant. She and her husband have triplets and live in Cochecton. If you would like to make a donation to the tricky tray or to the family, give Penny Ackerman a call at 845/701-2065
